Privacy and Cookie Policy
This notice explains what data is processed when you visit turkervaryemez.com and turkervaryemez.com/blog, which cookies are used, and your rights under Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK). In short: you never need to give any information to read the site, visits are counted anonymously without cookies, and Microsoft Clarity — the only tool that uses cookies — runs only if you allow it. The Turkish version of this policy is the authoritative one.
1. Data controller
The owner of this site and the data controller under KVKK is Ahmet Türker Varyemez (İzmir, Türkiye). This is a personal publication; it is not connected to my employer and no data is processed on its behalf.

2. Data processed
a) Visitor statistics — Umami (cookieless, always on). Umami is used to understand which pages are visited. It uses no cookies, does not track you across sites and builds no personal profile. It records: the page address, the referring address, browser and operating system type, device type, screen size, language, and country/city derived from your IP address. The IP address itself is not stored. Some interactions are also counted anonymously: CV downloads, how much of an article is read, share buttons, category clicks and the words typed into the blog search.
b) Usage analysis — Microsoft Clarity (only with your consent). If you allow it, Microsoft Clarity runs to show how pages are used. Clarity records clicks, mouse and scroll movements to produce heatmaps and session replays, and uses cookies to do so. Text typed into forms is masked by Clarity by default. If you do not consent, Clarity is never loaded.
c) Comments (blog). If you comment on an article, your comment, name, email address, (optional) website, IP address and browser information are stored. Your email address is never published. To show a profile picture, an anonymised string created from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service (Automattic Inc.). If you tick "save my details", your name and email are stored in a cookie in your browser for your next comment.
d) Email. If you email me, your name, email address and message are used only to reply.
e) Server logs. The hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, date/time, requested page) for security and technical operation.
f) Preferences stored in your browser. Your light/dark theme choice and your cookie preference are stored only in your own browser (localStorage) and are never sent to me or any other service.
Fonts are served from this site's own server; no requests are made to third-party services such as Google Fonts. If an article embeds external content such as X (Twitter) or YouTube, that provider's own privacy rules apply once the content loads.
3. Purpose and legal basis
| Data | Purpose | Legal basis (KVKK) |
|---|---|---|
| Umami statistics | Understand which content is read, improve the site | Legitimate interest (Art. 5/2-f); data is anonymous |
| Microsoft Clarity | Improve page design and usability | Explicit consent (Art. 5/1) |
| Comments | Publish the comment, prevent spam | Explicit consent (Art. 5/1) — commenting is optional |
| Reply to your questions | Legitimate interest (Art. 5/2-f) | |
| Server logs | Security, debugging, preventing abuse | Legitimate interest (Art. 5/2-f) |
4. Transfers
Data is never sold, used for advertising or shared for marketing. The following service providers are used to run the site; their servers may be located abroad:
- Umami Software, Inc. (Umami Cloud) — anonymous visitor statistics.
- Microsoft Corporation (Clarity, USA) — only with your explicit consent, on which the cross-border transfer also relies (KVKK Art. 9).
- Automattic Inc. (Gravatar, USA) — only for profile pictures when you comment.
- Hosting provider — hosting of the site and server logs.
Data may be shared with competent public authorities where required by law.
5. Retention
- Umami: anonymous statistics, for as long as site statistics are kept.
- Clarity: according to Microsoft's retention periods for Clarity.
- Comments: for as long as the comment is published; removed on request.
- Email: for a reasonable period after the matter is resolved.
- Server logs: for the period set by the hosting provider.
6. Cookies
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. This site uses no advertising or marketing cookies.

Microsoft may change the names and durations of its cookies over time; see the Microsoft Clarity documentation for the current list.
7. How to change your choices
You can allow or decline Clarity in the box shown on your first visit. You can change your decision at any time with the "Change my cookie preferences" button at the top of this page or the "Cookie preferences" link at the bottom of every page. You can also delete or block cookies in your browser settings. Ad blockers may also block analytics tools; the site works normally either way.

Under Article 11 of KVKK you have the right to:
- learn whether your personal data is processed and, if so, request information about it,
- learn the purpose of processing and whether it is used accordingly,
- know the third parties in Türkiye or abroad to whom it is transferred,
- request correction if it is incomplete or inaccurate,
- request deletion or destruction under the conditions of Article 7 of KVKK,
- request that third parties to whom data was transferred be notified of corrections and deletions,
- object to a result against you arising solely from automated analysis,

Send requests to turkervaryemez@gmail.com. Requests are answered free of charge within 30 days at the latest. If you are not satisfied with the response, you may complain to the Turkish Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK).

This policy is updated whenever the tools used on the site change. The current version is always on this page; the "Last updated" date at the top shows the latest change.
